A little Superdrug Haul

I was feeling a bit down at the weekend and as I was in town already (you should go see Mad Max! :P ) I wandered into Superdrug to cheer myself up a little. Now I know that shopping is a really bad remedy for feeling down but I hadn't treated myself to any makeup or frivolous stuff in a while and... Well unfortunately for me it works. And it's less destructive than vodka frenzy.

Anyway here's my haul:

MUA had an offer where if you spent £8 you got a free limited edition palette and they had a bunch of stuff I hadn't seen before. So I got a highlighter (or 'Undress Your Skin Illuminating liquid glow' to give it it's full, ridiculously long name) in Pink shimmer, Whipped Velvet blush in Chichi, Wet Look eyeliner, Velvet lip Laquer in Atomic and the palette.

NYC was on some offer, I think Buy 1 get 1 Half Price. So I picked up two of these 'Smooch proof liquid lip stains' (which from swatching I thought they might be like the Topshop Gloss Inks but they're not really :( ) in 'Faithful Coral' and ...I don't know the name of the red one. Stupidly the name is only written on the outer plastic wrap that seals the product. So as I've removed that to use it the name is gone forever!  A 'Fancy Dotty' nail polish in Greenwich Goddess and a peel off base coat which should be good for glitter polishes.

GOSH was £2 off everything so I picked up a 'Xtreme Liquid Gel Eyeliner' (how can it be both liquid and gel at the same time? Answer me GOSH!) in the shade '007 Lavender'.

Finally there was a very naughty impulse buy of some real techniques brushes. But they were over 50% off and my old ELF face brushes are slowly dying so..yeah. That's my excuse :P It's the 'Sculpting Set' with a Sculpting Brush, Fan Brush and Setting Brush.

A Trip To Westfields

A couple of weeks ago Claire and I took a trip to Westfields which at the moment is my favourite place to go shopping. It really reminds me of a peoper huge American mall, has tonnes of shops I really like and it's really spacious and airy so it never seems too crowded (which means I feel less anxious). 

I didn't do very interesting makeup as I wanted to get out the house quickly.

 

Claire wanted to take a picture of my (not particularly interesting) outfit but as we went out to the garden I realised that the burly polish builders working on the house next door (who constantly play really loud Europop from the nineties) were watching us, which explains my expression (I hope).

 

Our first stop is always at Butlers Chocolate Cafe because it is AMAZING! It does the worlds best hot chocolate and you get a free fancy truffle with every drink.

 

Drinking a delicious chocolate milkshake and wearing my fake Jeremy Scott sunglasses ( I wanted the real ones but these were £6).

We shopped for a while and then had lunch. The food court is great, it has loads of choice and healthier items. I got falafel and hummous and Claire had a huge vegetable burrito.

Westfields is absolutely great for a makeup fiend like me. There's regular shops like Superdrug and Boots then higher end brands like Makeup Store, Mac and Inglot (I think it's the only Inglot shop in the UK, but I may be wrong) and Debenhams which has various brands like Chanel, Dior, Urban Decay etc.There's also an OPI shop (which I think is the only place in the UK to get Nicole by OPI polishes), some kind of mineral makeup place and Kiko (which is a great shop with bargain prices and fun colours but seems to always playing really horrible loud club music). There's also Beauty Base which is..odd. Beauty base is like a big discount perfume place (though some of the discounts are only 5p off RRP) and then it has some high end makeup brands like Shiseido (which seemed to have no discount) and also really cheap, obscure brands. You can get L.A. Colors there which is great because everythings under £5. And finally (I think, I may have forgotten some shops) a Models Own shop has just opened.

My experience of the shop however wasn't that great. The staff seemed very nice and friendly but there were  a group of about 5 SAs standing in a big group chatting to each other. This meant there were bits of the shop I couldn't access and they continued their conversation even when I was paying for my goods which is a real pet peeve of mine. The stock seemed a little odd, they had hundreds of the nail polishes but they seemed to be arranged by colour, while this might usually be helpful it means if you want something from their collections (I wanted some Beetlejuice colours) you have to go hunting for them all individually. And there were about 4 sections, all of which had the nail polish in a slightly different order (some colours were on all sections, some were only on 1 etc). Models Own has a huge variety of products but the shop only had certain products. Finally the check out system is just weird. Instead of scanning barcodes the SAs are all equipped with tablet computers and have to manually search for the colour you're buying, it seems really inefficient, especially as it took took of them (one to call out the name of the product and the other to find it on the tablet)

On the plus side however you can make your own little gift box of 6 polishes for £20 (on the website you can only get premade selections)

Then an amazing thing happened, I was in Topshop looking at some glittery brogues when I heard a call of 'Lillian?' and turned to discover Robyn, my fellow Makeup Hero, looking at the same shoes! :D

Topshop wouldn't let us take a photo inside for some reason (they also wouldn't let Claire come in the changing rooms with me which sucked because I wanted her opinion on a dress I was trying) but we took one outside. Robyn is just as beautiful in real life as in her blog and a super funny awesome fellow!

 

We ended up both buying the aforementioned shoes. Oooh friend, shoe friend!

All in all a good day was had.

A while ago I got the lovely Wendy to cp me a few bits, but she was naughty and sent me gifts too. Ohhh naughty generous people :P

First I got the Deborah Lippmann 'Get This Party Started' set which includes 3 polishes in 'Happy Birthday', 'Candy Shop' and 'Forget You'

   

These were a lot bigger than I expected. I've only seen photos of the bottles from straight on and I imagined they were cuboid/rectangular, like Barry M polish bottles. Instead they're square and pretty huge!

 I had my Lynnderella polishes (which I mentioned in this post) delivered to Wendy.

And in the US ELF had a 70% off sale, and as it's about half the price there than it is here I thought I'd grab some bits.

Haulage

 Last week I decided to leave the house on my own (apart from to walk the dogs or go to my sisters house) for the first time in about 5 months (probably, I cant remember). Scary! I was all shaky and very anxious and didn't stay out long at all, but I did it! Hooray. Go me. So I treated myself to a haul, which I shall now share.

Firstly I got these awesome huge headphones from TK Maxx

 

And they also had this Color Club Starry Temptress set for a bargainous £8. I'd seen these on blogs and was thinking of getting them from t'internet because they are both neon + glittery! :)

Evil Shades Swatches

Hullo everyone.

Since my last Evil Shades post I've had two small (practically all sample) hauls. So in this post I have swatches for:

Also (this isn't photographed because I forgot to :P) Andrea was lovely and sent me a pot containing all she had left of her indulgent cuticle cream. I had a sample of it before and looooved it but was sadly it was discontinued. I'll be reviewing this too sometime soon. It's my favourite ever cuticle cream and I'm dreading the pot running out!

Shiro cosmetics haul, swatches and review

I'm a little worried to post this review. Have you ever been in a situation where a friend has absolutely raved about something, whether it's a band or movie or whatever so you get really excited and have big expectations and then when you finally hear or see whatever it is you think it's good but not as amazing as your friend did? And then because you had such high expectations you're a bit disappointed, not because the thing was bad, but just because it's not as amazing as you were led to believe? (If you're a friend of mine you undoubtably know this feeling due to my hugely obsessive personality and the fact that I'll have attempted to make you watch Forbidden Zone repeatedly).
I don't believe I have ever seen a Shiro review with a single negative word spoken about the company. I've seen nothing but gushing support. Which is deserved! The products are good and Caitlin is a complete sweetheart. This isn't going to be a negative review at all, in fact it's nearly entirely positive, but I just wasn't 'wowed' by everything. I think this isn't down to the products being disappointing in any real way, just them being a little underwhelming to me when I've seen so many bloggers who are absolutely in love with Shiro.

Shiro is the first brand I've bought from that has a very very strong 'theme'. I've bought from places which have vague themes before (i.e. Evil Shades and Morgana have a 'gothy' theme, High Voltage and Hi FI Cosmetics have a 'rocker' theme etc.) but never one this blatant. Basically every piece of writing refers very obviously to it's geeky inspiration. I think this is part of Shiro's appeal, if you're into makeup and consider yourself a 'gamer' or 'geek' then this brand is probably right up your alley and very exciting. That being said I think the incredible strength of the branding could be a little alienating to people who are not into that scene. Personally I didn't feel one way or the other about it. I love the Super Effective collection because I've loved Pokemon since I was a wee girl, but I don't consider myself a gamer or 'geek' (I'm more of an arty muso ponce thing) and some of the references just went straight over my head. And by some I mean basically the entire Intertube line. I'd heard of Numa Numa and Rickrolling, but not a single one of the other memes referenced. It wasn't really a problem and didn't stop me from ordering or anything but I think I was missing some of the appeal. I guess the names act as a sort of in-joke and a way to bond with other customers and feel a kinship with Caitlin over your shared interests. So what is my point? I'm not sure really XD Basically I think that the very strong branding is a really good selling point for the brand, and sure to delight a lot of people, but I found some of it a bit baffling and felt a little stupid  and desperately out of the loop for not understanding the joke. However I'm overly sensitive and am most definately out of the loop :P

Having said that, my older sister is a huge gamer (she worked on the english translations of Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts dontcha know) and when I showed her the site she was delighted, very excited by 'Leroy Jenkins' and as she spends a whole lot of her time holed up in her room playing Portal 2 I'm certain she would be all over the Science collection.

It's all down to personal preference. While I may not understand all the references, I can appreciate that the writing for every colour is very witty and fun with a lot of time and effort put in. And there's a lot of detail about the products, including ingredients, description of colour and any warnings (such as product staining, if it's lip safe etc) so it's not as if the copy is taking away from any important information. It wasn't enough to put me off ordering at all either. I just thought I'd mention it.

The products were nicely shipped in the pretty bag you can see above and that was inside a bubble envelope. Along with my order I also recieved 3 free samples, 2 tasty little chocolates (which were eaten long before I could get around to taking the haul photo) and a business card :)

Shipping was exceedingly cheap at $3.50 from the US to the UK however it did take longer than the majority of other indie brands I've tried. I ordered on the 3rd of March and it arrived in the second week of April. Not terribly long, but longer than the average I've experienced with Indie companies which is about 2-3 weeks from ordering to recieving. I was slightly sad as I'd heard that their turnaround was super speedy and had ordered a couple of pieces for my sisters birthday (The 31st March) and it didn't arrive in time for that. That being said I never mentioned that to Caitlin so she had know idea I was hoping for it at a specific date. My own fault.

Right on to the product! The eyeshadows are first up, after the cut :)

First proper haul in aggggeeessss!

At the moment I still have basically no income (should have some basic ESA reinstated but the DVLA forgot about it -__-) so I can't really afford to buy makeup or clothes or other nice luxuries. I still make some very small purchases occaisionally but they are few and far between. I'm also currently having some problems leaving my house, so Claire decided to take me out shopping and buy me some presents. We went to Kingston. I was very anxious and had some real difficulties but in general I had a lovely time, Claire was really good at looking after me and calming me down and she was really generous! I got lots of goodies and technically only spent £2 of my money! I felt accomplished afterwards.

Claire also decided I needed to have my picture taken. I'm not sure why, I didn't look particularly nice! And yet I am sharing for some reason :P

 

It doesn't look it in the photo but it was too bright for me to see, which is why I'm pulling a silly face.

And I like this photo because it's just like this one from about a year ago when we first got Weevil :) Yet again it looks like I'm strangling him when I'm not, and he's a lot bigger of course!

And the other day Jesus appeared in my cooking!

High Voltage Cosmetics haul, swatches and review

I made my first High Voltage purchase during a 50% off sale (I'm going to review them as if they were the full price though because the sale is no longer on). Stupidly I forgot to put in the sale code in the paypal coupon note thing so I emailed immediately panicking and begging for my discount. but I needn't have, as soon as my order went through Jasmine refunded me the extra money I paid before I could even ask. She's one of the sweetest, friendliest people I've met through beauty blogging. She's always happy to chat on twitter about anything and seems genuinely interested in what I have to say. It's always a bit awkward reviewing things made by people you like because obviously I have to be honest about everything so I did worry a little when ordering. But I really needn't have. The items I got are overwhelmingly awesome! There's a couple of things I didn't really like, but it's not even because I think the product is bad, they just doesn't suit me or weren't as goodin comparison with the other products! This was one of the most positive expeiences I've ever had with an Indie makeup company. Usually there's one or two bits I have slight issues with, but with this order I really had to nitpick to find negatives to bring up!

Evil Shades Haul, Swatches and mini review

Just after christmas Evil Shades had a sale (I have completely forgotten how much, 20% perhaps?) so I decided to get some bits I hadn't tried before, and some I had tried before and liked :) Now I haven't worn the majority of these long enough to do a proper review, so this is just my initial thoughts.

Ok so i ordered on the first of january and I recieved my order in just over 2 weeks, which is pretty much the standard for shipping from America. It came in a standard bubble mailer, then wrapped in a pink plastic bag and sealed with the cute sticker :)

ELF haul!

I haven't posted a haul in ages because I haven't had a proper haul in a while! I was super poor before Christmas and am still saving money because I have tonnes of birthdays and things coming up (boo hoo) but as I got money for christmas I've indulged my addiction a little, so expect other small hauls coming up :)

Haul Ahoy!

Yesterday i had to do something horribly scary. Because i am on disability allowance (due to my social phobia i can't get a proper job) i was made to go and have an assessment where basically they ask questions and take notes about how my illness affects me. Not only is talking to a stranger horribly scary for me no matter what the situation, this had the added pressure of being really quite important. If they don't believe that i am genuinely ill (which is obviously harder to tell with mental illness that physical problems) they can cut off my benefits and then i basically won't have any income. So yeah, very scary! 

However it wasn't so bad, the woman who conducted my assessment was really nice and understanding and seemed to realise how difficult i was finding it and tried to put me at ease. Which was a big contrast to a few weeks ago when i went to a doctor for an assessment (i was hoping to find something that might help my condition), the doctor was awful, i felt intimidated and bullied and he made me feel worthless. Really not what a health care professional should do.

Anyway i was still feeling a bit shaken up and low so we decided (Claire had come with me) that as we were out already we should pop into town and do a little shopping. Usually it just ends up with me buying everything and Claire following me around being good and financially sensible, but yesterday she actually bought some things, yay! (though of course not as much as me :P)

So we went to Oxford Street because i wanted to check out the new makeup line at Topshop.

Almighty Haul!

So recently i have been very very naughty. I've been a little bit better financially so decided to blow it all by going on a shopping binge :( naughty naughty Lillian. Last week the Seven dials in covent garden had an event one night where the majority of the shops all had 20% for one night. So i had a little splurge there and then i went to Kingston on saturday and had another little haul. There's also some bits and bobs shoved in that i got a while back but haven't shown yet.
I know some people don't like seeing hauls so it's all under the cut :)

Latest Haul

This was my most recent haul, from about 2 weeks ago (i'm proud of myself, i've barely bought anything since! This may not seem much of an achievement to most people but i am very proud of myself) when i took a little trip into Wimbledon and visited the shops that are my current Kryptonite: Superdrug and Boots.

 

Firstly i popped into Superdrug and, for me, got away with a very small amount! I picked up Sleek blush in Flamingo, GOSH foundation in porcelain ( i may have finally found my skins perfect match!) and GOSH nail polish in Bright Passion and Sweet Peach. Sweet Peach was on clearance and should have been half price (£2.50) but i found out when i got home and looked at my receipts (i really should start looking at them sooner!) that i had been really undercharged. I only paid £1.25 for Sweet Peach, a quarter of the full price, and, for some reason i have no idea why i only paid £1 for Bright Passion! I felt quite guilty about it, but also very pleased! Saved me a few bob, thanks Superdrug :)

 

Then i went to Boots and picked up a lot of bits:

Colorsport 24 hour eyeliner in black, Maybelline Falsies mascara in black, Collection 2000 eyeliner in Dig It, 17 Nail polish in Tropical Island, 17 nail polish in Orange Soda, 17 Eyeshadow in Funfair

i had a voucher for 150 extra points when you spent over a certain amount, and another for 50 points if i bought a 17 Eyeshadow. So i did, and it was 3 for 2 on 17! I also got Soap and Glory's Flake Away but forgot to photo it and I think i also got some boring lady things like tampons.

Yesterday me and Claire's order from Sugarpill arrived (we often buy makeup together so we can get twice as much but pay half each :P) and we were so, so excited i just had to show you as soon as possible. I wore the shadows yesterday (no picture because i did my makeup in a huge rush and it wasn't a very good look, but i did a video so you can see the shadows on me when it's up on youtube :)) and they were fantastic, so so bright and easy to apply and they lasted at least 10 hours without creasing or fading. However as i've only used it the once i don't want to write a proper review yet, but wanted to show you the amazing packaging and colours and give you my first impressions.

We made our order around the 13th of feb, which was a pre-order time, so orders didn't start getting shipped for a while, but as our parcel arrived yesterday it took less than 2 weeks from ordering for it to arrive anyway :) And here is the parcel:

Inside everyting is wrapped in pink tissue paper and arranged beautifully:

Can you see how wonderfully everything fitted together? I don't know if it's a coincidence or on purpose, but all the products slotted together perfectly, so they couldn't move around during shipping. Also there was no waste of a box too big for the products (i'm talking to you here Mac!).

Our order came with some gorgeous free stickers, an invoice with personal note and Amy was amazingly generous and gave us a free full size shadow! :O Claire was really happy because Amy's note mentioned a necklace she bought from Claire once i her note. It's little things like this that make a big difference.



Here is our invoice with our lovely glittery free Sugarpill Stickers (Claire is thinking of putting one on a scratch on her laptop), some business cards and the thank you note.

We picked up all of the pressed eyeshadows, 3 of the loose shadows (+ our free 'sample', a free full size pot of loose shadow) and a pair of her eyelashes. Shiping is free anywhere in the world on orders over $75 and at the time we ordered there was a 15% off sale. Our order came to $105 in total (we paid half each). All the single shadows are $12, the eyelashes are $8 and the eyeshadow palettes are $34.

Now onto the packaging, which is absolutely stunning. Each product comes in an absolutely gorgeous box, and then the product themselves are in gorgeous custom jars and compacts. And this packaging is really high quality too, the cardboard palettes are really heavy duty, the plastic jars are thick and the logos are printed on, not just stickers.

The lashes themselves. These are the 'Dewdrop kisses' lashes and have beautiful little crystals on the hairs. Sugarpill stock another pair of lashes too, a more regular cat-eye pair.

Next the pressed eyeshadows. We bought 2 of the palettes which contain 4 shadows each but cost $34 instead of $48 (single shadows are $12 each) so you're effectively getting a free shadow and $4 off :) Sugarpill offer 9 pressed shadows and the two palettes we got, Sweetheart and Burning heart, had 8 of them!

Palette on left is Sweetheart with Dollipop (pink), Afterparty (blue), Midori (green) and Tako (white). Palette on the right is Burning Heart with Flamepoint (orange), Buttercupcake (Yellow), Love + (red) and Poison Plum (purple).

We decided we had to have the last pressed eyeshadow, Bulletproof, which is a matte black. Here is the packaging this came in.

There is another palette, Cold heart which includes bulletproof, Tako, Poison Plum and Afterparty.

Now the Chromalust loose shadows. We bought Asylum, Tiara and Goldilux and we recieved Magpie for free! These jars are BIG for $12. Seriously you don't get a 5 gram jar of shadow, you get 5 grams of shadow!
