Hey everybodeh!

Hi! I'm sorry I've been away so long, after the end of my holiday last week I've been feeling really rubbish. Blah blah excuse excuse.

So while I was on my holiday I had lots of lazy mornings with lots of time to play with makeup, meaning I could do some slightly more interesting looks than my usual lipstick-and-eyeliner faces.
Here is one look I did which I really liked:

Wearing:
Face: Illamasqua Sophie powder blush, some No 7 face powder (the name has worn off)
Eyes: an unnamed light creamy colour from MUA Heaven and Earth palette, Illamasqua Ore Pure Pigment, Darling Girl Glitter Glue, Illamasqua Sophie pencil on my waterline. Mac Fling on my eyebrows
Lips: Darling Girl Raining Blood Holo-Gloss

My older sister, Laura,  joined us on the holiday for a while and loved this look. She liked it so much that she bullied me into doing a version of it for her one night when we went out for a meal.

Now I am really quite bad at putting makeup on other people, sadly I don't think I could ever be a makeup artist, but I think I did quite a good job here! She liked it too :)

Wearing:
Face: she did her foundation , I think she used Benefit Some Kinda Gorgeous. I added some Sleek blush in Guipere.
Eyes: the same colour from the MUA palette, Illamasqua Ore pigment, Collection 2000 Dig It glitter eye liner, black mascara. Mac Fling on the eyebrows.
Lips: Darling Girl Raining Blood Holo-Gloss

What do you think of my awesome makeup artistry? :P

Annnd beneath the cut are some funny faces:

Paradox

 It's my 600th post! WOOO!

To celebrate behold this amazing giant bourbon biscuit from Costa:

You have no idea how delicious it was.

Right now onto the proper post!

Back in the early summer my jewellery company Callooh and Callay launched a new collection based around impossible/paradox images. Because we're a tiny company we can't afford fancy stuff like models so I had to pretend to be one myself. We wanted a sort of New Wave look and I did my best!

Do you think I succeeded?

I used  Illamasqua Skin Base in 02 in several layers to give me heavy coverage. I wanted my skin to look as flawless as possible to give a mask-like appearance. I highlighted the bridge of my nose, cheekbones and cupids bow with Tiara Chromalust by Sugarpill. To make the angular cheeks I just cut a triangle out of paper and used it as a stencil with Sugarpill Love + eyeshadow. Finally for the lips I mixed Sugarpill Chromalust in Goldilux (the best gold eyeshadow EVER!) with ELF Studio Makeup lock and Seal. I knew I was going to be wearing big 80s style sunglasses so I didn't bother with any eye makeup. When I took the glasses off the look was... strange:

Here's a close up of the lips. The colour was amazing but it felt very dry.

So that was my 600th post. It may have been underwhelming but at least I only just realised so there wasn't a big build up to it!

Me Me Me Goddess Eye kit from Findmeagift.co.uk

A little while ago I was contacted by the lovely Joanna from Find Me A Gift who offered to send me one of their makeup gifts to review. I chose this, the Goddess Eye Makeup Gift Box from Me Me Me. Find Me A Gift is an online shop that specialises in all sorts of presents for everyone including lots of silly novelty things as well as luxurious items and days out. Their makeup section isn't extensive but they do have The Balm products which can be hard to find in the UK and some Me Me Me gift sets I've not seen anywhere else.

Anyway as this was sent to me I can't really review the website so I'll just be discussing the Me Me Me set.

The Goddess gift Box comes with an Eye Inspire Baked Eyeshadow Quad, Fat Cat mascara (black), Eye Sweep liquid eyeliner (black), Eye Line pencil eyeliner (in Coal) and a little 'get the look' flyer.

As you can see it's packaged in a simple black box. It did have a little wrapper thing (you can see it in the item link) with the same picture as on the flyer but you have to take it off to open the box and so of course I immediately lost it. It would be nicer to have a more decorative box as it's a gift set but it's not really a big deal. The box is nice and solid and hardy, mae of heavy cardboard and closing with magnets.

The get-the-look flyer wasn't a particularly useful addition. While the look itself is very nice the instructions are a bit lacking.  Basically all the steps are the same, just saying to put the colours across the lid and under the lashline without going into detail. Also the colours in the quad aren't labeled with named but the look sheet refers to them ('Cream' is easy to work out but it's hard to tell which colour is meant to be 'Light Gold', 'Bronze' and 'Rich Copper' without being told). But again this isn't a big deal at all, it's easy to think how to use the set because the colours all compliment each other well.

Here is the quad. As you can see it contains 3 complimenting metallic goldy/bronzy colours and a cream which has golden tones too. Sometimes I find baked shadows to be dry and hard to get decent pigmentation from but these were lovely and creamy. The cream colour was ever so slightly chalky but not badly. All the colours are lovely and soft and blendable. But the quad itself is quite small and as all four colours are baked in a pan I found it hard sometimes to get my brush in without picking up more than one colour at a time.

The Eye Line pencil is soft and creamy and a very deep black. I don't tend to use pencil eyeliners except on my waterline (I just prefer liquid liners) so that's how I tested it. It is not smudgeproof but I found it very long lasting. After about 8 hours the colour had faded a little but was still clearly visible.

The Eye Sweep liquid eyeliner is really fantastic! I've tried many pen style eyeliners before and never liked them, they always seem really dry and I often find the colour dries down slightly grey. This one however is lovely.  The liquid flows easily out of the tip and you can run it really smoothly across your eyelid. It dries down to a very pigmented black. The felt nib is just the right size, not too big, not too small and you can make both thin and thick lines with it.

Top: Eye Line - Bottom: Eye Sweep (one stroke of each)

Finally the Fat Cat mascara. This was a bit of a let down to be honest. Firstly it smells very very strongly and the smell isn't very pleasant. It's like a very chemically, synthetic orange smell. You don't notice it when you're wearing it thankfully but I found it off putting when I was applying it. It's also a very dry formula, which I find hard to apply properly. And I wasn't very impressed with the look it gives my lashes, I want the biggest, thickest lashes possible and this doesn't give me them. However on the plus side it didn't flake or clump and gave good definition. I'd think this would be a good daytime mascara for people who want natural looking lashes that are just a bit darker and thicker than their naked lashes.

My naked lashes

With 3 coats of the mascara.
You can see it's lengthened my lashes a bit and they're obviously darker but there's very little volumisation (which this mascara specifically boasts) and I'd prefer more length.

Here are some photos of a look I made using everything in the set:

All in all I think this is a really nice gift set. It contains everything you might need for a lovely eye look. I really love the Eye Sweep and the eyeshadow quad has some great complimentary colours. I could imagine making a nice bronze smokey eye with it too. The only disappointment was the mascara, but again it's not terrible and people who like natural looking lashes will probably like it (if they can cope with the smell). I think for £14 this is a great gift set and would be particularly good for someone just getting into makeup as it contains a nice set of basic and essential eye products and the colours aren't too scary or out there.

*I was sent this for review purposes but all thoughts and opinions are my own*

Christmassy FOTD

This was a quick and easy look but I thought it was purty.

Wearing:
Face: Illamasqua Skin Base in shade 2 mixed with moisturiser.
Eyes: Darling Girl eyeshadow in Donner, black mascara, Sugarpill Love + Pressed eyeshadow on the eyebrows.
Lips: Originally I was wearing Darling Girl Cookies for Claus Colour Rich Lip Balm with Holly Jolly Holo-Gloss over the top but then I just topped it off with Holly Jolly and Cookies For Claus wore off, I can't remember at what point these photos were taken :P

Holly Jolly is my favourite lip colour at the moment, it's just so festive :)

Have a very Glam Christmas!

My friend Mikey was playing a glam themed gig on tuesday, so I dressed up all Christmassy. Also a you can see I've dyed my hair. On the packet it was bright bright red but it's come out sort of Burgundy. I still think it's quite pretty but it's almost the same colour as my Mum's hair which makes me feel a bit weird :P

Here's mah face:

Wearing:
Face: Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in 02, ELF Studio HD powder, Sleek blush in Salacious
Eyebrows: Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow in Love +
Eyes: Darling Girl Blitzen Eyeshadow, Darling Girl Honeypot eyeshadow, black mascara, the liner is just some loose glitter mixed with ELF Studio Makeup Lock and Seal.
Lips: Red lip pencil (offbrand :P), Darling Girl Jolly Holly Hologloss

Here's my outfit. I know I probably 'shouldn't' wear something like my plausuit, it's too high cut and not particularly flattering on my little round body, but I like it so who cares?

 Wearing:
Polka dot Jacket and diamante tights -  Topshop
Sequin playsuit - Asos
Hair bow - Dolly Dagger
Badge and necklace - Callooh and Callay
Shoes - Office (I would have worn more interesting ones but I cut my foot on a bit of smashed bauble :( )

For some reason here in the UK a disproportionate percentage of our Christmas songs are from the Glam Rock genre of music.  Wizzard, Mud, Slade, Bowie (with Bing Crosby who is, of course, totally glam) and of course this which you never here anymore. I wonder why...

FOTD

Here's quite an old FOTD, but for once i can remember most of what I was wearing! Yay!

Here my Paris Hilton eye is particularly strong!

Wearing:
Face: don't remember. Probably Avon tinted moisturiser and some powder, Possibly Sleek Flamingo blush
Eyes: Inglot shadows. They were a prize in a giveaway and come in a freedom palette so i don't actually know the names, one is black with tiny gold shimmer/glitter and the other is a very light gold.
Lips: Barry M Mandarin Lip Lacquer

Not very complicated, but still more than my very lazy lipstick-and-mascara-alone looks that i do the majority of the time :P

Illamasqua contest entry 2 - Midas' Daughter

My inspiration for this came from the idea that the characters at the Art of Darkness dinner were searching for the secret of the elixir of life and the colours of the collection reminded me of alchemy which was the ancient theory of how to turn base metals into gold. In turn this reminded me of the story of King Midas and my idea came from there. The inspiration for the actual makeup look came from a few sources, firstly i remembered a look from some horror film where they had large cartoony veins drawn in black (can't remember which film and i couldn't find pictured on google so i had no source to look at) which i wanted to do but in gold. I also wanted the look to be sort of regal and that reminded me of a makeup look i love, Dave Stewarts in the Eurythmics 'There must be an Angel' video, where he plays a sort of playing card/rococo king with exreme contouring and gold eyeshadow.

The story of King Midas goes as follows:
In Ancient Greece there was once a great king named Midas. He was a good king but obsessed with wealth and loved gold above everything, including his one daughter Marigold. One day Bacchus came and after Midas showed him fine hospitality Bacchus agreed to grant Midas one wish. Midas wished for everything he touched to turn to gold. At first Midas was delighted by his new golden touch bu he soon saw the downside. He tried to drink and the water turned to gold, he tried to eat and the food turned to gold as soon as it touched his tongue. Worst of all when little Marigold came to see him Midas kissed her. Instantly all life left her and she was nothing but a golden statue. Midas cried and begged Bacchus to remove his curse. Luckilly Bacchus kindly agreed and told Midas how to cure himself. Firstly Midas washed his hands in  a river that ran near his house. He then collected some of the water in a pitcher and took it home. When he sprinkled the water on Marigold she returned to life. Midas was so delighted to be free of the dreadful golden touch that he returned everything in the house to it's original state and never lusted for money or gold again.

However I wondered what would happen if that is not where the story ended.

Midas' daughter has been searching for the banquet for a long time, desperate for the knowledge and help the gatherers might be able to grant her. Her father's stupidity has left her cursed. While once she was flesh and blood she is now slowly but surely returning to the gold that Midas lusted for. Gold dust now runs through her veins. She needs to find a solution to restore her humanity, but is it already too late? Sadly her emotions too are becoming as hard and cold as the yellow metal her body is reverting to.

Doing Claire's Makeup

Claire wanted me to do her makeup. Oh boy was it stressful! I don't think i've ever done someone elses makeup before and i am not very good at it! Though she didn't help, she kept having laughing fits and thrashing around. I originally was going to do a semi complicated eye look but after nearly having a nervous breakdown i wiped it off and went for something much more simple.
Claire wanted a regal look to go with her new crown:

The ferret princess is better than the unicorn queen, that bizyotch don't even have no proper crown!

Claire is wearing:
Face: UD surreal skin cream foundation in Illusion, avon face powder, Illamasqua powder blusher in Sin
Eyes: BFTE Lace (on browbone and inner corner) and Sugarpill Goldilux Chromalust on lid, black mascara
Lips: NYX round lipstick in Black Cherry

Anyway even though it was stressful Claire really loved it, she said she felt beautiful afterwards so i will do it again and who knows, maybe i will get better!
However, occaisionally (presumably because i do lots of over the top 'out there' looks quite well on myself) people say i should be a makeup artist. Umm... no! It was so, so difficult to even achieve this look! :P

I then did my makeup in the design i had originally been trying for with Claire before i had to resort to a very simple one colour plus highlight eye look.

Face: UD surreal skin cream foundation in Illusion, avon face powder, Illamasqua powder blusher in Sin
Eyes: BFTE Lace (on browbone and inner corner), Sugarpill Goldilux Chromalust used very sheerly over Lace and used wet as liner on upper lid line and on waterliner, Royal Sugar on lid, black mascara
Lips: Well i thought i used the same lipstick as on Claire but it looks different :/

In other news there are too many great things I want to buy at the moment :( For the first time in ages  actually want some Mac stuff (Dare to Wear lipglasses), Models Own are having an amazing 50% off sale, Illamasqua are coming out with their new collection (anyone know if the bloggers event is happening? I got an email saying it might be in August but nothing since then so i assume it's not happening anymore), Cherry culture are having their 20% off sale etc etc
But i am going on holiday soon and also owe my mum money so i can't afford to get anything and this makes me very sad.

Goddess of nails

Hi everyone
once again i'm sorry for not posting in a while (God this is getting to be a recurring theme!)
I've been having a bit of a stressful time at the moment. I may have mentioned a while ago that i was very happy to have got a few pieces of my work into an exhibition at a (rather highly thought of) local commercial gallery. It was due to open a few weeks ago no-one got in contact with me and because i am so shy i didn't ask and I thought i had missed the private view, which made me sad. Anyway i finally emailed them about it and recieved no reply. Then about a week ago the gallery seemed to shut down, we assumed this was because the show was being put up and i was relieved. But low, a huge 'TO LET' sign has been put up. I've emailed everyone at the gallery whose address i had but haven't got any reply.
So obviously my work won't be exhibited and while that is disappointing i don't really care now because i am just so panicked about getting my paintings back! It's terrifying that no-one will reply to me and tell me when i can pick up my stuff!
I've also been trying my hand at making gloves (ho ho ho i am making a pun) and god it's awful! The pattern is so so tricky (partly because you use just a 3mm seam allowance and partly because of the insane gusset things between the fingers) and i don't even know if they'll fit when they're finished. Grump!
Anyway that's what's been going on.

A while back Cherry Culture were having a 20% off (which actually they are again at the moment! Use code B2S20 until tuesday sadly i cannot afford to get anything) and i picked up a huge amount of nail polishes :) One of which was this:

LA colors Goddess

This is a lovely muted slightly nude toned gold with tiny and large silver holographic glitter.

It's lovely and i know i'll where it on it's own at some point, but I just wasn't feeling it. I needed more bling!

So i popped on a thin layer of my gold holo glitter franken and then some silver large square glitter (Essence nail twins but i don't know the name!)

Ta daa!! Much more tacky :)

What's on your nails at the moment?
