Blue Belly

Back here I said I'd show you my full outfit. At the time I wore it I felt pretty fabulous, I thought I looked amazing! But sadly now I've actually seen the photos I've taken I've been reticent to share. I do not think I look good anymore. I'm actually writing a big long post about my body issues and stuff so I won't fully go into it now but basically I think I look pregnant. Also when I was out in this I got a lot of dirty looks/laughter aimed at me which made me feel very uncomfortable and scared. It's a real shame because when I looked in the mirror before leaving I thought I was smoking!
Bur I decided I should still share the pictures with you because the outfit is awesome, just maybe not great on me at the moment.

Hat: Ebay (vintage)
Necklace: Cicely Margo
Crop Top and Trousers: Asos
Socks: Topshop
Shoes: Office

It's the first time I've worn a pair of trousers in probably about 5 years! I really like them but they need some real tailoring. I'm going to take the hem up to make them capris and bring them in so they flatter my legs a bit more. I wouldn't wear the socks next time though, they look silly.
I bought the same outfit but in red too (it was all 50% off in the saleso I got 2 outfits for the price of one!).

And here is my face:

Face: Mac Prep & Prime Face Protect SPF 50, Sleek blush in Guipere
Eyes: some shadows from the Sleek Matte V2 palette (i lost the sheet with the names, I'm wearing the light yellow and the white)
Lips: Sleek Amped

And finally here is a photo of me pulling a face upon hearing the builders next door shouting at each other:

The builders have gone now. I am relieved but also slightly sad I don't hear their 90s Europop everyday now.

  1. I think you're being hard on yourself. You can see that you have curves, but you're far from looking pregnant. More to the point, the outfit does draw the eye to the fact that your waist is noticeably narrower, so it gives you a nice hourglass. Personally, I think it's adorable. Love that lipstick, too.

  2. I have to agree with Kate. This outfit really shows you have a lovely hourglass figure and a narrow waist. I think you look really lovely and LOVE the shape of your hips! I would love to say, "Don't listen to what other people say!" and know it'll make an impact, but I understand how it is when people give judgmental stares as you're out and about. I regularly get harassed because of my very fair skin and regularly hear things like "get a tan!" or "Halloween is over! Go home vampire!". It's hurtful and makes you want to cover everything up, especially when you have social anxiety to begin with :[

  3. I think most of us have image issues, even people who seem to be fit can be self concious. I'm not very happy with my body either but no matter what shape or size you are, there are always clothes out there that can complement your body. It's just a matter of picking the right clothes for your body type. I honestly don't think you look pregnant at all. The outfit is cute but for some reason I feel like the top and bottom don't really go together well. I think making them capris is a good idea.

    1. Yup, I agree. Although if you feel good in the clothes you wear and what people say truly doesn't bother you, then there's no reason you shouldn't wear what you like. I know that's easier said than done though especially when you are a shy person and you have image issues. But you know, at least take pride in the fact that you know who you are and that you don't buy into superficiality or ridiculous and petty standards. I know people (usually girls) who are constantly criticising others (again usually other girls--even the ones who are foxy!) and making fun but they aren't exactly great looking and lack the confidence others have. People who are constantly trying to fit in are more unhappy than people who simply don't give a sh-t. :)

By the way you look cute (I thought you were going for a Dorothy look) and while you are a curvy gal, you aren't huge and don't look pregnant. Don't put yourself down just because other people do it.

  4. I think you look adorable, curvaceous, but not fat at all.

  5. I think you look awesome, genuinely. Like, if I saw you in the street I'd probably think you were really cool! And people are jerks, ignore them, you get idiots everywhere who'll make comments about anything. I love your makeup here too!

  6. I think you look fantastic, and definitely pull off the whole look! I am so jealous you got to buy that outfit, I was seriously lusting after it (even made myself a similar top, don't think I could manage trousers though!), haha!

Also, try not to worry about what other people think, if you felt hot, you were hot! I know it's hard sometimes, I think everyone feels the same way on occasion, I know I do!

    Anyway, much love, xxx

  7. You are yourself. And you enjoy being yourself. There's nothing wrong with that. Let them laugh. I whole heartedly agree with the others on this. My personal opinion is that you are a great role model in that you do not follow beauty standards and just dress yourself up how you like it. I absolutely adore you for this!

  8. Aww Lillian, I think you look adorable. The dirty-lookers and the laughers are just shallow twats who would probably never wear anything as fun. People have occasionally given me funny looks, or laughed, or hummed the Addamns Family theme tune at me (no really) but do I want to wear boring tops and jeans every day and stress over getting the 'perfect' body like they do? A thousand no's.

  9. Ignore the naysayers (I don't have enough street cred to even type "haters"). You look amazing, though I would love to see those pants as capris, then you'd look totally Marilyn Monroe! I also really want to see the red version of you too as I think the colour would really pop on you, what with your pale skin & dark hair and all.

Its hard when you see people staring at you, but I always try to think that most of the time people staring aren't even seeing you. People zone out all the time, but if you feel self conscious you can attribute their looks negatively, but even if they were staring maybe they thought you looked fabulous! Its hard though, I know, so I hope you can see how good you looked again. :)

  10. That is an awesome outfit and I think you look retro and foxy. I think a capri length would be really good, and then you can still wear cute socks with it and keep it broken up a bit.

People are nobs, ignore them. For everyone one arsehole, I bet there were three people thinking "wow, I wish I had the balls to wear shiz like that." Plz to see it in red, I'd love to see how you styled it in a different colour! I have one of these length tops and haven't worn it yet (it's neon pink lace!) and now I think I shall have to.

  11. You're adorable! I hope this doesn't sound too weird but as a shy fat girl, seeing you look amazing in your ootds has really helped me with my body issues.

  12. I definitely don't think you look preggly. People will be bitches. The trousers could definitely do with some tailoring, but that's just a consequence of high st retailers' insistence that we're all the same proportions. Love this outfit on you.

  13. If you look good, you feel good. I actually think the outfit is flattering. I have a problem belly too and a high waist can camouflage it. If you want a couple tips that worked for me I'd say a high protein diet and staying hydrated can get rid of the bloaty look. Tl;dr, the media is stupid and having a belly doesn't mean you have to stay inside. You don't want to look back on these years and say you didn't do something you wanted to. If people are criticizing you, don't live in fear of them, just ruffle them up by doing what you want to do.

  14. You're lovely. I dig your curves and your outfits are always darling.

After the hundredth or so time I heard "Halloween is over, Wednesday!" I got a button that says "To me, everyday is Halloween." and I wear it everywhere. Don't do something like that though, don't get bitter.

Stay gorgeous and know that everyone who brutally mocks is just trying to distract from the fact that they really hate their ankles or whatever. =)

  15. Pfft. You look amazing (as you always do)! Wearing trousers can be scary but I honestly think you are super cute. I'm always in awe of your fearlessness when it comes to your fashion, never change! xx

  16. I think this is an absolutely lovely and adorable outfit, brilliant fun too! I have the red version of the crop top + skirt - I'm short and abhor wearing trousers, I'd love to be able to carry them off and you can! :)

  17. I think the outfit looks really cute! God, people are so bloody boring. They run around in their damn jeans and t-shirts all day giving rude looks to anyone who looks slightly different. Wouldn't it be fun if we could all run around wearing green lipstick and strange outfits without getting a second look?

  19. When you feel like you're getting dirty looks, I think you need to ask yourself is it because of what you're wearing and your size, or is it because the people who you're around don't understand the idea of fashion. Most people who wear jeans and a t-shirt as a uniform don't understand why people want to dress up, but the whole idea of fashion is supposed to be to showcase your personality and creativity. Don't ever let other people stifle that. They wish they could be creative but they've lost that spark. Don't let someone dim yours. You're beautiful and willing to take risks, keep going in that direction.

Also, you mentioned you have body issues. I suffered from that for years in such a terrible way in my teens that it was debilitating. The way I got through it was to get a note book and make a thing called a compliment log. Every time someone gave me a compliment, I wrote it down. Then I had to give myself 2 compliments a day, and they had to be different each day. Eventually you realize that there's so much good, you learn to push away the bad thoughts. It's not easy and I still suffer from 'fat thoughts' but I don't let them control my life anymore.

  20. Omg you're so cute! You would definitely brighten up my town, we're all boring in our jeans and t-shirts.

  22. You look as prettiful as always! That's a really cute outfit. I don't know a great deal about well tailored trousers, but they don't look like an unflattering fit to me. I absolutely love your style.

  23. From the bottom of my heart, you look absolutely beautiful. Please don't let close minded people make you feel uncomfortable...I don't say that in a condescending way at all-I thinbk it threatens people to see someone who's so free and individual. Xxxxx
