Lime Crime - The Girl can't help it.

How long has it been since good old Limey was found doing something sneaky and dodgy? Well i posted about it last saturday, but let's give her the benefit of the doubt and say her awful newsletter went out on friday, so giving her a full week of not doing anything hilarious.

Now this, which was spotted by someone on the good old funny Examiner thread, is absolutely hilarious.

This is now the front page of Limecrimemakeup.com note how underneath the picture it claims 'Doe Deere is wearing opaque lipstick in Retrofuturist'

Ok, now let's go back in time to the beginning of October 2008, when (i believe) Lime Crime Makeup hadn't even launched yet (i think it happened around Halloween of that year, but i may be wrong) and The Candyfuture lipstick collection was a mere twinkle in Limey's eye. Here's an interesting post:
http://www.doedeereblogazine.com/articles/porcelain-doll-makeup-tutorial

So you were wearing a lipstick that hadn't been invented yet were you Doe?
Also check out the difference in colour from the original tutorial to the photo on the front of her webpage. The lipstick which was originally a slightly brickish orange based red is now a bright, blue based, pillar-box red.

Though this can't be proper proof as she still mentions a Revlon lipliner in the tutorial, this shows evidence that originally she was wearing a Revlon Lipstick:

But even if that person was discussing the liner, it doesn't make a difference, how has Doe managed to get a lipstick that didn't come into existence for another year, and then why change it's colour using photoshop?

Lol lol lol.

  1. Hahaha she's so hilarious ... she underestimating her readers and that's a big NO-NO. I know most of her followers are naive preteen girls but that doesn't mean their stupid.

  2. LOL. Now that, is a major oops x

  3. Lmao... She does think that her buyers/readers are damn stupid.

And I agree that's one huge OOOPS!

  4. She obviously has no problem whatsoever with lying at every opportunity. The value of telling the truth means nothing to her. It's funny, but it's also a little scary =/

  5. Oh Limey... I was going to do an April Fool's post about how I would be showing everyone the great lipsticks sent to me by the lovely and misunderstood Xenia, but I didn't want people to miss the April Fool's part and think I had lost my brains.

  6. Yeah, you're right, Lillian.

Apparently the color of red lipstick which was used for the tutorial looks warmer than the one on the front page of LC.

This tutorial was posted in Oct 2 2008, and her lipstick line was launched in Oct 2009. Maybe she has a time machine. lol

Hey, it seems you're writing a big & long article about Limey. When will you finish it?? I'm expecting to read it!

  7. I feel sorry for her fans if she underestimates them that bad. Or should feel sorry for them for not seeing what she's doing in front of their face. And most of them happen to be really young.

  8. LOL!! I'm not shocked by this ... all of her product photos are actually photoshoped on the same set of lips, so what's the difference?

  9. I remember that tutorial!! I think I might have also left her a comment about the Revlon lipstick ... so yes, I distinctly remember it being a Revlon, not one of hers.

  10. Blimey, she really thinks her followers are thick, doesn't she? Way to appreciate your cult, Limey.

  11. Wow...that is sad and hilarious. I don't think she's ever going to learn.

  12. Have you ever thought of going into business as a Private Investigator? You'd be amazing! She's such a silly lady :( xxx

  13. I'm sorry for posting this but I laughed when saw it and it sort of reminds me of you-know-who: http://www.smbc-comics.com/comics/20100402.gif

  14. After I read this I actually busted out laughing and exclaimed that's fucked up!

  15. LOL.

@Meow Face: Of course she has a time machine, she's from ~candy future~.

  16. I just read her blog more yesterday and she only realised in April 2009 that she wants to make her own lipsticks so yeah... she would've needed the time machine.

  17. That girl has edited her past before, so why change?
But I can't understand how a driven entrepenour like that doesn't keep track of what she's said where and when? No matter how many times she tries to defend herself by saying everybody else is just out to get her, that we're all jelaous liars, more and more people find out the truth and when they do, they won't buy her shit.

  18. What a fail. She really needs to go away, I can't believe people are still buying into her crap.

  19. wow! great point!! Id almost forgotten about her...

  20. I wish I could go back in time and change a lipstick from a photoshoot.

Man. I wonder when she'll start selling her time machines.

  21. That's just.. epic..fail. for her ofcourse.

I remeber reading that post in 2008, and I also remember the lipstick was mentioned to be Revlon's back then. I remeber, because I bought the same shade for myself because of that tutorial. And well, I still have that lipstick, but it hasnt transformed into Lime Crimes, as in the tutorial!

  22. Wow, do you see the pic now? She took out the "Doe is wearing Retro... lipstick" subtitle to ease herself out of the mess a little bit. Still has the lipstick tube in front of the pic, though.

How dishonestttt!!!! It aggravates me to no end!

  23. I'm the "epic fail anonymous" here again..

Dang, Deere gives me goosebumps. No one can really be that crafty, can they?

I noticed the subtitle change on limecrime website too, but nothing has happened to the blogpostm, though. I even posted a comment to her about buying the Revlon lipstick two years ago because of the friggin blogpost, but surprisingly: She did not publish it. How nice of her...

  24. I asked her:
Why did you change the lipstick to Retrofuturist on the front page of the LC website, when it was originally a Revlon lippie on your blog??

She said: It had to be done to approximate the color. You can 100% get this look with Lime Crime Retrofuturist.

    ------------------

Uhm... Thanks? Really? But yeah, totally discredit the Revlon lipstick in your blog... Ooookay, then.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just oh dear goood. Firstly, she uses a picture of herself wearing Revlon and claiming it's Lime Crime's Retrofuturist, and when asked, "you can 100% get this look with my lipstick".. And eeerm!! Where is all the fuss about being so brilliantly unique and pigmentious unlike any other brand?

Oh I am so going to buy Revlon instead of her Lime Crime Retrofuturettecrapstuff"

-Anonymous who bought Revlon two years ago..

  26. I never realised you were so involved in this issue, and were in fact the buyer from the Duct Tape incident!

We will be attending Lime Crime's Space NK launch on Tues, so hopefully we'll be doing some posting on the topic ourselves (though from a neutral reportage stance obv.). Also hoping to obtain review samples of the lipsticks too.

  28. Aw, all this makes me so sad :( I used to absolutely love Doe Deere - her blog was one of my big inspirations to start blogging. But lately all this repackaging drama is making me reconsider my devotion to her blog, and definitely making me reconsider buying her cosmetics :/ I mean, this is just ridiculous!

I think her tutorials are amazing though, so I'll still be visiting her blog. But I certainly won't be buying any Lime Crime!

    ReplyDelete
  29. If you look really closely at both photos, it looks as though maybe she photoshopped not the color, but the actual lips- like she retook a shot and just covered up the Revlon. I mean, I could be wrong, but that is just what it looks like to me.

  30. Hello Lillian! I've read every single one of your Lime Crime posts and looked at all the links/photos. My goodness it's taken me ages but I was so interested in it. Over the past couple months I have discovered just how SHADY the beauty community/business is. First it was JuicyStar07, a beauty guru on YouTube that never mentioned that she was being paid for positive reviews (therefore lying to everyone). A while back I read about the re-packaging of Lime Crime and I was put off, but then today I learned about all her other lies! It makes me SO angry. I was a huge fan back when she made clothes. I loved her designs and they kinda reminded my of Supayana (who I was into at the time). I was desperate to buy something of hers but I never had money and even to this day I have been searching EVERYWHERE for one of her pieces. But to learn of all these lies and how rude and nasty she is makes me so sick! I follow her on Twitter...but i'll soon make that a thing of the past.

Also can I just mention...(this was before I read anything bad about her)..whenever I saw an image of her or imagined her...I always thought that she looked a bit like the devil!!!!

    HAHAHAHA!

I'm going to follow your blog now :D

I look forward to your new posts!

Take a look at mine if you like. I don't mind if you don't. Whateve floats your boat.

  31. What a lovely little bunch of grown up women you are, twittering away about someone on your little corner of the internet. I think you spend way too much time trying to bring down someone actually successful rather than focusing on something more positive. At this point, it doesn't even matter that your target is Doe Deere, or er inconsistencies- I'd be ashamed to know any of you that would speak so lowly of someone in the way you do.

Please, continue your Deere obsession and your rants on Encyclopedia Dramatica.

  32. We will. It's terribly good fun to expose a fraud. We will also be wasting our time buying from companies that make their own high quality, unique products such as Aromaleigh, Hi Fi, Morgana Minerals (and, dare I say it?), Sugarpill.
