  9. Do you spend all the money you recieve on clothes and makeup? or are these hauls once in a while, because it seems that despite your disability and the fact that you always say you have no money, you spend the disability allowance on clothing and lipsticks and going out.

i appologise for how harsh this sounds, but i once and for all want to understand how this works because it seems so weird to me.

  11. Hey ali, how the fuck is it your business how Lillian spends her money? It doesn't matter if you understand how it works because it's none of your business. Do you expect her to never be able to buy anything fun for her entire life because she's on disability? God forbid she buy CLOTHES, how unnecessary! No one needs clothes! I apologize for how harsh this sounds, but I once and for all want to understand why you care so much about how she lives her life because it seems so weird to me.

  12. Ali:
Short answer: no, i don't spend all the money I receive from the government on clothes and makeup.
    Long answer:
With the money I get from my disability allowance I pay for my rent and food and things, insurance and food for my dog, art supplies for my painting, medicine and so on. I also have a job. I do admin for my sister for about 3 hours a fortnight. Obviously the money I get from the few hours a month is not enough for me to live on but it supplements. With what is left over, after I’ve taken care of these necessities from both the Government and my job and any other income (my Grandma sometimes gives me money, I just had a blog sale etc) I use on things to make myself feel happier. Which sometimes does mean that yes, I spend it on clothes and makeup and fun frivolous stuff.
I can’t really understand why it seems so weird to you. It’s no different from any other person. I use the money I can spare on luxuries. I am unable to get a job because of my disability but I don’t think that means I should be looked down upon for buying things I may not ‘need’ but do want. The government believes I have the right to claim the money so they give it to me. Once it’s been given to me, it’s my money; how I decide to spend it is entirely up to me and not really anyone else’s business.
However, I think I’m quite responsible with it. For several months now I’ve barely bought anything. Also I really don’t understand where you’ve got the idea that I am hauling extensively from. I just checked and while I did have a haul earlier this month the one before that was in June and most of that was made up of gifts or bought with advantage card points. I take a while to write up my blog posts, so there may be reviews of things I’ve bought months previously all up at a time.
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you honestly weren’t trying to be mean or offensive, but you should understand asking something like that sounds extremely judgemental. Being unable to have a job and having to accept what is basically charity is quite difficult and upsetting, particularly as I’ve just had to go through the very stressful process of appealing, so having people judging me based on the fact that I sometimes buy luxuries is very unpleasant.

Thanks so much for being so cool. And i'm sorry that i even asked that question. not sure what was going through my mind at the time. And no it's not my business but i was curious. thanks again for being so lovely.
