Questions

Does anyone have any questions (about anything, beauty, fashion, personal or whatever. Though if they're too personally I might choose not to answer. I'm pretty open though :P) they'd like to ask me? I really like answering questions, and if any came up a lot I could do a FAQ thing :)

Also does anyone know of a (relatively) cheap pale pink or flesh toned eyeliner? I've heard they're great for giving you a wide-eyed look when you use it on the waterline, but the only ones I've seen are from Benefit (which I think is discontinued now, not sure though) and one from YSL or someone else high end, and I can't afford that stuff :P

I'd also like to welcome and thank the new followers I've gained recently. I really do appreciate the support you guys give me so so much and am still a bit amazed that so many people are interested in my posts. I've started collecting stuff for a giveaway, but I want it to be a really good one and need to save up some money for prizes so it might not be for a while. Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart.

  1. How did you and Claire meet? I love those kind of stories :).

Hmm, I've never seen beige eyeliner before. I have Benefit's "Eye Bright," and that's a pale pink, but I've never tried using it as an eyeliner before. Also, it's not cheap. In the States it's $18, but here in Canada it's $25 (WTF, our dollar is on par now >:O). ELF makes an inexpensive concealer pencil, but that might not be safe for the waterline. I'm curious now, though! I'm always trying to make my eyes look bigger!

  2. There are those kind of hard eyeshadow shimmer sticks that come in paler colours. I have one by collection 2000 but I'm not 100% sure you can use it inside your eyeline but I don't see why not? How about that gosh brand at superdrug?

    - What are your style inspirations?

There's a million things I'd like to ask because you're an interesting person! haha

  3. Although it's not actually flesh-toned, GOSH Bananas eyeliner is supposed to be good as a brightening waterline color. I guess the slight yellow tint helps lessen any waterline redness (as far as I understand).

  4. Claire and I met years ago (about 2004 or something) on the internet (where cool people meet their friends!). We both had livejournals and I saw her on some community and thought she looked cool. We started talking to each other on an IM and email and we got on brilliantly and had tonnes in common and then we started talking on the phone and just became best friends. We met up a few times and Claire stayed at my house and luckilly we got on brilliantly in 'real life' too. It was all completely platonic until about 2 and a half years ago when Claire came to live with me (due to various reasons that I won't go into because it's loooong). We went dancing and I was a bit drunk and just kissed her. Then it was a bit awkward for a while because we both identify as straight (or I do at least, I'm not sure where Claire stands on her sexuality at the moment) but we realised that we were in love with each other and have been together ever since :)
It's not really the most exciting story, there was no love at first sight or anything, but I think we were meant for each other. I'm sure even if somehting were to happen and we would split up we'd remain best friends because we never get tired of spending time with each other.

I think the Benefit one is discontinued now, it's not Eyebright, though I might try using it (I got it free with a magazine :P) and will report back. I have the ELF concealer pencil but it's way too dark for my skin so will probably look bizarre on the waterline!

I think the idea is that, while white eyeliner makes your eyes klook bigger, because the whites of your eyes aren't actually stark white it can look too stark. So a pale pink is brightening but not so glaring... or something :P

  5. I know that MAC has the Chromagraphic Pencils out with the Champale collection right now, those are nude. They're permanent in pro stores.

Stila has a nude one too, the Kajal Pencil in "Topaz", which should probably come to cheaper because Stila is ALWAYS on sale. =]

  6. I just use white pencil and press a nude-toned shadow on top of it. Obviously you have to be careful to tap off the excess and you're not strictly 'supposed' to use shadow in your waterline, but I use shadow to set my liner there all the time and I've had no issues. I know a lot of other people do too :)

  7. I'm not sure how expensive MAC is over there, but the new eye kohl called I Get No Kick from the Cham-pale collection is what I've been using lately on my waterline and right below it to get the wide eyed look. I really love it.

  8. Isadora (Swedish brand) has an affordable nude pencil for waterline, but I doubt the brand is available there? :/

  9. Such a sweet story how you met Claire :)
One question I wanted to ask after seeing your Christmas post is how did you learn to make such beautiful clothes? :)

I tried eye bright, but found it too pale next to my tired eyes. I just bought the Mac eye kohl, I Get No Kick and it's a perfect skin toned eye liner for me, with a kinda pearly side to it that reflects light really nicely. xxx

  10. Honestly, I haven't heard of flesh-toned or pale pink liners being used for that, but I have heard of white ones. I've never tried it myself, I always do my waterline to match my lashline.

  11. I use Sephora's Flashy Pink, which was also recently discontinued (why do they keep doing that!!!) I use it for exactly the reason you state: it brightens and "opens" my eyes, both because of the color and because of the quasi-metallic finish. (Dark colors on the waterline just tends to close my eyes in, rather than accentuate them.)

I've never tried them, but ELF has a pale pink eyeliner pencil. I've read other reviews saying that their pencils are soft, they don't tug, all of which is good...I just haven't ever gotten around to actually -=trying=- them. But there's one possible place to start (and they're inexpensive, which is another plus.)

  12. Can you recommend a good metallic silver lipstick? Hopefully not too expensive? I bought Evince from Evil Shades, but it's not silvery at all on me - nothing like the pictures I saw online.

  13. Hey! To the blogger above, you could try MUFE aqua cream or Illamasquas silver lip gloss!

To lillian, you could try Sephora nano liner in pearl beige, or Coastal Scents eyeliner in peach bellini or white. I can pick these up for you, if you'd like! Just give me an email =) And btw, I'm having a blog giveaway!

  14. I don't recommend the Nano liners at all. Granted I didn't get that color, but I returned the ones I got nonetheless, they were that bad.

I have the pink and the blush and they work similarly with my skin tone, with is pretty much the same as yours, but maybe with more yellow undertones.

  16. I use a flesh coloured eye liner by Essence. It's super cheap (€2 I think??) but I don't know if they sell Essence in the UK.

  17. Thanks everyone for your eyeliner suggestions! I picked up an ELF one because it was super cheap and I wanted some other stuff from them. If it doesn't work out I'll try some of the others :)

  18. Samantha:
Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm intrigued as to how the NC15/NW20 pencil would work on me, those shades are too dark for me as foundation but might work just on the eye.
I'll look out for Topaz too! Thanks so much :)

    RaeRae:
Ha ha good idea! I've done that before with no problems but didn't think to do it with the nude/pink, thanks!

    Heather:
I looked up swatches of I Get No Kick and it's lovely, but unfortunately already sold out already :(

    Anonymous:
I've heard of the brand but don't think you can get it over here. Thanks for the suggestion anyway! :)

    Gemx:
    Aww thank you :)
Umm well sewing clothes really isn't that hard! The essentials anyway, I don't know how to do anything complimented. My Mum can sew and she taught me how to use the machine and the rest i just learned from following the patterns instructions. Once you get going it really is pretty easy. Claire knows how to draft patterns and things which I find completely baffling :P

I'm hearing lots of good things about I Get No Kick!

    Shattered:
I can't remember where i heard it. The idea is that it's like a white liner, which 'opens' your eyes, but the white can look a bit stark next to your eyeball (cause they aren't bright white) so a pink shade works better.

    LiAnn:
I hate when products I love get discontinued! So annoying! I like lining my eyes with black, but i've got quite big eyes so it looks alright if i 'close' them in a bit. I'm interested in seeing what a fleshy toned one looks like though.

And I've bought the ELF one, can't go to wrong for £1.50 :P Thanks so much for the suggestions :)

    Illeryana:
Hi! I do have an Illamasqua silver lipstick but I haven't actually tried it yet! However their silver lipgloss is absolutely amazing, you can see a swatch here:
    http://lillianfunnyface.blogspot.com/2010/02/illamasqua-intense-lipgloss-swatches.html

BUT it's pretty expensive and not available outside the EU (though i'd be happy to do a custom purchase for you :) )

Morgana Cryptoria has a silver lipstick, but it's quite a dark silver.

Stargazer has a silver lipstick i think and they're super cheap (£3 at most) but i've not tried it myself and i don't know how easy it is for you to get your hands on (again i could get one for you if you wanted :) )

And Sobe botanicals 'Medievil' sounds like it might be good, light grey with silver shimmer.
    http://sobebotanicals.com/products-page/lipstick/gothlips-stix/
Anyway if you want to email me about any of them my emails queen-cry-baby@hotmail.com :)

Can you recommend a good metallic silver lipstick? Hopefully not too expensive? I bought Evince from Evil Shades, but it's not silvery at all on me - nothing like the pictures I saw online.

    Y:
Thanks for the suggestions, i might try the coastal scents one! And thanks so so much for the offer, but Coastal Scents deliver overseas so i can get it delivered straight to me. And i'll make sure to check out your giveaway :)

    Shattered:
Thanks for your advice! I probably won't get the nano liners anyway as we don't have Sephora over here :(

    Alexandra:
Thank you! I picked up the pink one, I'm looking forward to seeing how it works :)

    Make Up Monster:
I've never seen Essence in the UK (if other people have please tell me where to get it!) Which is annoying because i have some of their nail polishes (won them in a giveaway) and I love them :/

And Maya if you're reading this I haven't forgotten you, it's just taking a while to answer everything properly :P

  19. Hello Lillian,

I would recommend looking for a concealer pencil that is safe to use on the eyes. There are some very inexpensive ones. I should add that using products on waterlines can cause little bumps to form, according to my ophthalmic optician, and she recommends not using products there very often.

Thanks so much for all of your work.
    Simone

  23. Maya:
I've not seen a GOSH one but my local superdrug (the only place near me that sells GOSH) is rubbish and the GOSH stand is always a complete mess and nearly empty :/ I'll have another look though, it sounds good!

    - What are your style inspirations?
Style inspirations include but are not limited to:
Circuses (particularly from the early to mid 20th century, Magicians and their assistants (particularly from the early to mid 20th century), 1700s fashion (well the aristocrats, not peasants :P), 20s flappers, 30s, 40s and 50s pin ups and starlets, Science fiction, 80s fashion, Glam Rock, 70s british punk, cartoons, super heroes, comic books, Drag queens and pantomime dames. Specifics include David Bowie, David Devant and his Spirit Wife, Siouxsie Sioux, Barbarella, Roxy Music, Leigh Bowery, Adam Ant, Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, Jayne Mansfield, Diana Dors, Divine, Forbidden Zone, Velvet Goldmine... God there's millions! I like anything over-the-top and cartoonish basically :P

    - Have you ever been a tomboy?
I've never been a tomboy as such, but when I was very young I wasn't really interested in stereotypical girly or cool things. I've never wanted to be fashionable or cool. For instance when I was 8 I would wear huge black Doc Martens to school because I wanted to be like Vivyan from the Young Ones. I still loved playing with Barbies and other girly things though, and was never into 'boyish' things. Then when I was 14 I was a punk and wore lots of trousers and had a partly shaved head, but I was still quite feminine. So never really a tomboy, but I guess I had tomboyish attributes before :P

    - Do people approach you because of your style, how do you deal with it if so?
It happens occaisionally, but more often I get shouted at in the street, which I just ignore. When someone is complimentary it does make me happy, even though I'm so shy. So I try to make them aware that I am very thankful, but I'm not very good at talking, so I usually end up babbling a little bit :P

    - What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
I love nearly all ice cream, it's my favourite food. I think my favourite is hazlenut but i also love peanut butter (impossible to find in england :(), pralines and cream, chocolate, mint, various sorbets and rainbow sherbet.

  24. - If you could open your door and see another world what would you want that world to look like?
Agh this is a very difficult question!
The same as this one but full of men I fancy! :P No not really.
I think basically I would want it filled with the inhabitants of Labyrinth (though David Bowie is not allowed in if he continues to wear those ludicrous leggings with his scary giant penis showing), lots of gobliny puppets and odd animals. And it would be very green and forresty and glittery. And beautiful sunset skies constantly. OR everything being trompe l'oile, I love things that are fake and real at the same time.

    - Can you play an instrument?
I used to play bass guitar, I was pretty good at it but gave up when I realised that, being as shy as I am, I'd never be in a band or anything, and Bass sounds silly on it's own. I'm trying to learn the ukulele but not very good at remembering to practice! Ukulele sounds less silly on it's own and is very fun!

    - What's the best present you've given somebody?
I honestly can't answer this one. I try my best to give people presents they'll like but I couldn't say who has liked it the most.

    - What do you think of religion?
Hmm this is another difficult one! I have no problem with the majority of religious people and some religious ideas seem very nice. However I think it often gets confused and things are done in the name of Religion that are just disgusting. For instance with Christianity, if Jesus existed then I truly believe he sounds like a really great guy, and following his teachings (most of which came down to variations of 'Be excellent to each other') would be a good thing for anyone to live by. However it all gets confused with the old testament and people start picking and choosing parts to believe. Like how the one part in the Bible against gays is in Leviticus, which also talks about Kosher rules and so on, but most Christians don't care. They just pick and choose what they want to believe.
And I think this is the same for the majority of Religions, they can be skewed to the preachers (or whatever religious persons) requirements and people will believe them because they are given a higher power than regular people.

I also just personally find the idea of their being a God or heaven rather frightening. I find death a scary and incomprehendable idea too but the idea of existing forever in some other plain is just scary to me.
Also I just don't believe it. I mean no offense to any religious people and I do respect their beliefs, I just don't like it when they push their beliefs on other people.

I'm sure those weren't the most eloquent of answers but I really enjoyed writing them, cheers for asking! :D

  28. ^ lol! I have to agree with the lycra mound being more scary than attractive!

haha a bass on it's own could lend itself to some kind of bluesy avant garde solo jazz poetry! er... yeah. The ukelele is probably a better choice! I really want to get one one of these days!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer those questions and I have to say I thought they were all very eloquent answers and really interesting! :D
