Find me a new top coat!

Last night i was doing my nails. I used a lovely colour, Model's Own Pink Punch and it was looking lovely. I left it a while and then applied my top coat which is by Collection 2000. It seemed fine and by bed time seemed perfectly dry. I went to bed with beautiful smooth nails and woke up with THIS:
Look at that bubbling! And it is so much worse in real life, my camera couldn't pick up the true ugliness.
I know it wasn't the polish because i had used it before without a top coat and it had been fine, no bubbling at all.

So... i need a new top coat. Preferably one i can get in Superdrug or Boots or somewhere and that is reasonably cheap. However if there is one you love that is from a higher end or international polish brand please tell me anyway :)

  1. I personally love Seche Vite or Poshe.
But the problem could just be that this particular polish does not play well with the chemicals in your top coat.

  3. You can check out http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2007/07/top-coat-challenge.html and look at all the "Top Coat Challenge" posts she does... You have to choose your top coats carefully because if you own any Big 3 Free polishes, using a top coat that contains certain ingredients will actually make the polish last much shorter - and vice versa ("normal" polishes with a top coat meant for big 3 free polishes) =/ I'm personally trying to keep my nail polish collection free of the "big 3" as much as I can, so I own Zoya Armor for those polishes. I know some of my China Glaze is Big 3 Free as well.

Moving on from my drivel, I heard that Seche Vite is pretty good if you can find it :)

  4. You gotta go with Seche Vite! It's just the bomb. I think you can pick up a bottle online for around 7/8 pounds? Otherwise Sally Hansen Quick Dry or Megashine Topcoat will do but really Seche Vite is popular for a reason!

  5. I don't know if you have this where you are, but Sally Hansens top coat is cheap and pretty good.

  7. If you're just going to Superdrug then you won't be able to get Seche Vite, I second the recommendation for Sally Hansen Insta Dri or MegaShine (in my experience Megashine dries almost as fast as insta dri). They are widely available and great in my experience.

  8. personally i quickly tired of seche vite, it goes seriously gloopy and needs seche restore, then when you get down to the bottom(a thurd left) the short brush makes it hard to use. urgh, it is good but certainly no better than Poshe, which doesn't go gloopy and has a longer brush. You can get Poshe on Ebay and on other websites too, but I recommend Ebay for lower prices.

I was very annoyed with Seche Vite, having to put drops of restore (an extra £8ish on top of the bottle of topcoat) every couple of uses. Not fun.

  11. Aww, how annoying, it's such a pretty colour!

I used to used Sally Hansen Diamond Shine, but after using some lighter polishes I noticed it goes a bit yellow after a couple of days. :(

So I went to boots and wanted the cute 17 nautical box and picked up the 17 base and top coat. Very cheap, but I love it. I layer on nail polish pretty thick and normally go to bed when it's about dry and with this top coat I haven't had any bed sheet imprints or complete destroying of my nails. It dries quite quick even with my heavy handed gloppiness.

  12. Seche Vite definitely, my varnishes used to do that because I can't spend 2 hours waiting for nails to dry, but with seche vite I can go to bed with no trouble. There are some on Ebay for fairly cheap -- I think I paid mine around £5 from the US postage included, might be some on ebay uk too well worth having a look

  13. I haven't tried the Barry M one but considering I like their other makeup and nail products, that may be one to try.
I like Seche Vite but when you get down to the middle of the bottle or so, it starts to thicken and is impossible to work with. It also causes major shrinkage at that point (it will look like you have tipwear within a few minutes of wearing the polish).
What about the Revlon top speed topcoat? It's on the Superdrug site for about 6 quid.
I knew a girl that swore by the Claire's base and top coat...

  14. Gosh! I have the same problem. That is one of the reasons I have not done a proper nail post on my blog in a while. While I like seche vite and have been using it for a long time. I hate that it is expensive and goes to crap after a while. Then you cannot use the whole bottle because the brush does not reach the bottom.

So far from the top coats that I have been trying, I am really liking the Sally Hansen Megashine. It is inexpensive and it has not made my nail polish bubble yet. I still have a couple more days of trying it out. So I do not have a final verdict on it yet.

  15. The Barry M 3 in 1 is quite good, i only used it a couple of times because my bottle disappeared. The No.17 top coat from boots is quite good as well :)
