a FOTD and some recent nails

I've finally caught up on replying to comments! Woooo! My Makeup Critic rant took quite a while because all of you guys were great and had really good things to say :)

Here's a simple FOTD from a little while back. I know my lipstick is Topshop's Brighton Rock which is a fantastic coraly-pinky colour. It reminds me of Barry M Flamingo Pink polish. Other than that it's just some black eyeliner, mascara and some sort of pink blush. I need to start making little lists of what I'm wearing when I take photos!

I have wet hair, which is why it looks so weird. I can't explain the mental look in my eyes though :P

And now for some nice manicures I've done recently. I have terrible looking nails because I have a nervous habit of ripping off my cuticles and the skin around my nails. I'm trying to keep my nails polished at all times because it means I'm less likely to do it and ruin my polish!

This is 2 coats of Barry M Fuschia and then about a million coats of Barry M Once Upon a Time. It was incredibly irritating as the glitter polish seemed to take hours to dry so I kept smudging, but it was oh so worth it!

Flash:

This is 3 coats of Accessorize Pink Spice polish (it only needed 2 to be opaque but I added an extra
layer just because) it's an amazing red/copper/pink metallic multichrome colour. You can see a bit of tipwear but these photos were taken after 4 days of wear and there was no chipping :) I tried my best to get good photos of the colour shift, but it's much more beautiful in real life.

This is 3 coats of China Glaze Light as Air (again it only really needed 2 coats) and 1 coat of Barry M  Lavender Hexograms. I applied this one horribly, you can see a huge dent in one nail :P

And finally this is 2 coats of Sinful Colours Let's Meet, 1 coat of China Glaze Lighthouse and 1 coat of China Glaze Crackle Glaze in Fault Line. I love crackle polish, it's such a quick and lazy way to get an interesting and arty looking manicure :P

What are you wearing on your nails at the moment?

I want to start a hosiery blog because I own so so many pairs of tights and stockings and socks and never get round to wearing the vast majority of them. I thought a blog would be a good incentive for me to wear more of them. I can't think of a good punny name though, so far people have suggested:
Stocking Filler, Funny Face Lovely Legs, Tight Spot and just Lillian's Lovely Legs
do you have any ideas? :)
Do my work for me so I don't  have to do anything crazy like make my own decisions!

Easter Face and Stylish Blogger award

This was my face on Easter Day. Yes, yes I am stupidly slow at posting, but I've actually got ones from over a year ago now that I still haven't put up. I SUCK!

I'm wearing Sugarpill Paperdoll and Birthday Girl, a lime green Avon liquid eyeliner (name has rubbed off), High Voltage Cosmetics Eyebrow Powder in Redhead and OCC Lip Tar in Vapid. I can't remember anything else.

Also I was tagged by the lovely Miss Bekka to do this Stylish Blogger award :) I love doing these things. I know I've probably missed tags in the past, so if you ever tagged me and I didn't do it then I'm sorry! I just tend to save things in tabs or my favourites and then forget about them because, as I said, I SUCK!

Anyway here are the rules for this one:

General rules of the award(s):
1.  Thank the person who gave you the award(s) and link back to them in your blog.
2.  Tell everyone 7 things about yourself (per award).
3.  Tag more bloggers for the award(s).
4.  Contact those bloggers to let them know they’ve been tagged.

I'n never keen on tagging people because I feel really anxious that I'll offend people I don't tag! So while I am only tagging Carla and Georgina please know that I think everyone I follow is super stylish :)

Ok so 7 facts about me:

1. I have a birthmark at the top of my left breast. It's sort of a triangle but with an odd top, so I like to call it heart shaped :P

2. I don't know how to ride a bike. I never really learned as a kid (I could ride but only with stabilisers :P) and though I'd really like to learn I'd be too embarrassed and self concious to now. If I could I would get a chopper!

3. I have quite a good singing voice, but only when I'm drunk (but not toooo drunk) or if noone else is around. Otherwise I'm too self concious and deliberately do a sort of weird comedic voice.

4. I'm honestly not sure what colour my hair is naturally now. I haven't had more than about an inch of roots since I was about 12. And my roots used to be darker than the rest of my hair. Anyway it used to be a dark blonde colour, and I imagine it still is, but I can't be sure.

5. I'm allergic to pineapple, kiwi fruit and a certain E number or something. Well I don't know what it is, I assume it's an e number. It's in pear drops, Apple Jolly Ranchers and some ice lollies. When I eat any of those things my tongue starts itching like crazy and I start choking. I'm also allergic to ant bites, they make me swell up in odd little cones.

6. I managed to insult Thomas Dolby via an old blog I had. Another claim to fame is that Harry Hill once called me a 'weird kid'.

7. Until I was about 6 or 7 I had quite an odd and sever speech impediment. I had a terrible lisp and could not pronounce 'K' or 'L'. I would say things like 'snate' instead of snake and I couldn't pronounce my name at all. I would say my name was 'Yeeyan' and people would think I was some weird girl called Ian. I also have a vivid memory of some adults (friends of my parents) laughing hysterically as I told our dog to 'sit' because my lisp made me pronounce it as 'shit'. I had no idea what they were laughing at.

So that's some stuff about me! Tell me things about you :)

Mr Darcy

I just thought I'd share some photos of our new pet, Mr Darcy :)

He was a stray up until last week when we rescued him :) He's a complete sweetheart already, he loves being stroked and ticked and has a lovely loud purr. Also he learned to use a litter tray in about a day! The poor lad has to stay in our bathroom for a couple of weeks (which is why he's in the bath) because we got him castrated straight away and he had some fight wounds that needed patching up, so he can't meet the other animals until he's fully healed up.

So he gets to join the rest of the family including:

Weevil

Minnie

Digby

And Feargal

(also the 2 other ferrets, Rikku and Yetta and our Guinea Pig Portia, I don't have any photos of them on this computer :( Sorry guys)

Also I wondered if I could pick your brains for a moment. It's for the secret project I mentioned yesterday. Claire and I are trying to think of a tagline for it. Our favourite of the ones we've come up with so far is 'All the fun of the fair for you to wear' (yes what we're making is wearable :P ) but we worry that it might seem too fairground-centric. Hearing that would you assume the brand only sold fairground related things? Or just whimsical fun stuff (which is what we hope)

Thanks for any feedback you can give!

A,B,C,'s of me-tag

I've seen this doing the rounds, no-one tagged me specifically but I've seen a few 'I Tag Everyone' posts, and I love surveys like this so I thought I'd do it. I'm insanely tired with a sore neck so it's not like I'm up to a proper post anyway! Sorry i haven't replied to comments in a while, I've been busy and then today I'm too sleepy to make any proper sense :P

A. Age: 23
B. Bed size: I think it's a double. It seems a little smaller than normal doubles, but it's very old (possibly antique) so maybe they were smaller in the olden days.I sleep on my own though so I've got plenty of room :)
C. Chore you hate: Washing up, emptying the bin, cleaning the hob and fridge, basically anything where I have to touch bits of old food.
D. Day: It's Sunday.
E. Essential start to your day: Cleaning my teeth.
F. Favourite colour: Light pink (the shade of the pink snooker ball). I also like bright red, green and silver.
G. Gold or Silver: Silver. I'm getting more fond of gold than I used to be though.
H. Height: About 5 foot 8 or 9, I'm not sure.
I. Instruments: I used to play the bass and regular guitar, I can play the ukulele and melodica a little. I'd love to be able to play the theramin.
J. Job title: Unemployable artist/illustrator.
K. Kids: No. No no no never. No.
L. Live: London, I've always lived here.
M. Mum’s name: Linda, but she prefers to be called Lou.
N. Nicknames: Ooshie, Cookie, Squill, Squilly, Squillina, Squillicent and so on and my Mum calls me Funny Face.
O. Overnight hospital stays: None luckilly.
P. Pet peeve: People who don't get back to you! It's just bad manners.
Q. Quote from a movie: The Queen promised to ream us with twenty inch cattle prods, and I'm still waiting!
R. Right or left handed: Right.
S. Siblings: Two older sisters.
T. Time you wake up: About 10 - 11 in the morning.
U. Underwear: I'm in my pyjamas, I'm always sleep in my bra but I've got no knickers on. Usually I wear proper knickers, I only like pretty ones. Sometimes I wear girdles or shapewear.
V. Vegetables you dislike: I loathe and despise Mushrooms (do funghi count as a vegetable?) and I've only tried Okra once so it might have been the way it was cooked, but it was absolutely disgusting. I also dislike cabbage, sprouts, parsnips, sweet potato, and lots of others!  I only like broccoli raw and I hate raw tomatos. I don't hate peppers but I'm allergic to them.
W. What makes you run late: I'm always losing essential things like my shoes and keys.
X. X-Rays you’ve had: Teeth and my chest when I was very small.
Y. Yummy food you make: I make very good tomato and vegetarian bolognese pasta sauces and vegetarian lasagne (the secret is to make a cheese sauce instead of a plain white sauce) and I can make souffle with no problems.. I like baking too and make tasty cakes.
Z. Zoo: I haven't been to the zoo in years. There's a lovely one up in the North called Southlakes Wild Animal park where they keep the animals really well and keep their behavious as natural as possible.

I tage anyone who wants to do it :)

All Filler No Killer

Happy Easter! I hope you had either a fulfilling spiritual experience, a happy secular celebration of chocolate and bunnies or indeed just a nice relaxing saturday :)
This is another filler post I'm afraid. Basically I want you to do all the hard work for me!
I have a tonne of things to swatch or review that have been waiting for over a month now.  I can't decide what to work on first!

So help me out, tell me what you are most interested in seeing out of:
a review of Illamasqua Cream pigment
Shiro swatches and review
Hi Voltage cosmetics swatches and review
A new Evil Shades haul
Blog sale/CP/ various bits haul
A trip to Brighton

Or none of the above :P

Oh and by the way, thank you all for voting in my last poll. The winner was Morgana Minerals new lipsticks with Shiro coming a close second. I bought from Shiro first as I hadn't tried anything of theirs before, whereas I already have quite a bit from Morgana. I was planning on getting a sample set of all the new lipsticks to try but unfortunately soon after I made that poll a lot of bad stuff has happened financially and I can't afford to buy that (or indeed any makeup) anytime soon :( I'm sorry to anyone who is disappointed and I will get them as soon as I have any sort of income again!

Sorry again for the delay in 'proper' posts, my cold is finally leaving and i'm not too busy in the coming week so a review of Brazen cosmetics and a new swatcharama should be up in the next couple of days as well as lots more of my big ol' face :)

Possible hiatus

Things might be a bit quiet around here for a while. I've had a very rough couple of days and don't know when I will be up to posting properly. If you want to know more you can read here but it is rather long and miserable so don't feel you have to!
Sorry everyone.

New email

Hi everyone,
just a quick note because I've changed my email. I use the old one for everything and (I assume due to having it available online on this blog) it started getting huge amounts of Spam. Presumably because of this  the spam filter went mad and anything coming from a new email address (one that hadn't sent anything to me before) was put into my junk mail. It's getting annoying having to filter through it so I figured having a new one for blog related stuff would at least help a little!
So anyway if you want to contact me for any reason my email is now lillianfunnyface@hotmail.co.uk
If you've emailed me and not got a reply it's probably because it got deleted as spam before I could see it, so I'm really sorry if that happened! Please feel free to contact me again and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Oh, but if I've been talking back and forth with you on my old email you can keep talking to me there if you want, cause it means my email doesn't hate you and designate you spam :P
Also I'm trying my best to catch up with comments, but it's taking me a while so please forgive me if I don't manage to get back to you straight away!
Also I decided to go to the Illamasqua event, but one of the 'intimate' events so hopefully will be less scary :)

Symmetry test

There's a famous theory (or fact, I'm unsure which) that the most beautiful or attractive people are those that have the most symmetrical faces. I've seen a few instances of this post floating around (see here and here for cool examples) and thought I'd do one myself! B
Basically I took a photo of myself as head-on as possible, then split it in half and doubled it. That way you can see how close one side of your face doubled is to your original face.
So let's have a look!

My normal face (eek, no makeup! D:) :

Left side doubled:

Right side doubled:

My face is a lot wider in one picture than the other because it is bloody hard to find the middle of your face! Also my picture wasn't perfectly face on to begin with. Still you can basically get the idea.

Hmm well from these I can deduce that when my face is perfectly symmetrical I look really really weird :P
But also it seems like my face is pretty symmertrical, just not perfect. And of course there's my super wonky brows :D I particularly like how the spot and freckle on the left side of my face gets doubled, so it looks like I've got 4 weird dots around my mouth. Well seeing as I'm not super even I guess I'm not a great beauty after all XD

A couple of things you've probably seen before

But I just thought I'd post anyway, just in case :P

1. You can get a free Barry M makeup kit with Buzz magazine from the Sun on saturday. You just need to collect one voucher this time, and the kit includes a pencil eyeliner, lipgloss and nail varnish worth 'over £9'. It looks nice, I looove Barry M, but there's no way in hell I'm buying the Sun! :P

2. No 7 are having a 'best wink' competition to celebrate their new Exquisite Curl mascara. Upload your picture or video to their facebook page and you could win a goody bag or a star prize of a pampering weekend including a makeover by Lisa Eldridge. That would be awful for me, craven creature that I am, but I'm up for a goody bag! :P Also I like the advert because the musical backdrop has a proper 70s glam rock drumbeat. Just needs some 'heys!' with air punching. And a man with dodgy hair and platform shoes... Ok i'm waffling. The competition ends on the 15th so get your wink on ladies!

... Now I want some Glam Rock!

Oh boy!

Disclaimer: Someone from a company representing No 7 emailed me and informed me about the competition. I am sharing because I thought the Idea was cute and interesting. This is NOT a sponsored post, I am under no obligation to post about it and recieved nothing in return.

More Birthday

I mentioned in my Cookie Monster post a few days ago that I was going to a friends birthday. I meant to post a picture, but forgot. Anyway I thought you should see because I look hilarious!

Me, Philippa (birthday girl), Xenia, Ian, Martin

I look absolutely terrified in every photo that was taken! Possibly because I was quite terrified, but it's still funny :P Also hellloooo double chin!

And I just thought I'd share, this was one of my presents for Philly:

I made her an adipose :)

I've had a horrible morning. My Mum had to wake me up to tell me that our Cat, Jimmy, had died. He was very old, 3 legged, deaf and going blind, but he was the nicest boy ever. Not a good week :(

Some recent art

Music rat 1

Music Rat 2

Music Rat 3

Ferret Yawn 3

I'm playing with acrylics lately, usually i use watercolour and it's a lot more 'slick'. I do like this too though, what do you think? Constructive criticism is appreciated :)

Are people interested in seeing my paintings and stuff? If you're not please be honest as i can use my other blog for it and then people who do want to see can look there :)

I'm entering the Sunday Times Watercolour competition next week, please wish me luck. And 2 of my pieces from last year are going into an exhibition in a local gallery, it's great because if they like my work i might be able to build a relationship with them.

I have been really getting interested in homemade and indie toilettry products and makeup. For a longtime i've wanted to make my own and just can't stop thinking about how nice it would be to run a little Etsy store (well along with the 2 i have already for my paintings and sewing :P) and make my own special blends and colours. However i would be a complete beginner, and so many people are so wonderful at it already is there any point? Do you think i should give it a go or just leave it to the professionals? I don't know what i could do differently except maybe add a new aesthetic.

And sorry for being useless at replying to comments recently. I'm going to go and catch up as much as possible before bed :)
